The Officers
The new committee proceeded to elect the new officers to the Management Team as follows :

We are pleased to confirm that the initial remedial and preparatory works started on 3rd August, and all is progressing well. You will see more activity over the coming days, and we have taken delivery of materials for the next stage of fitting the new roof.
Funding is in place for a percentage of the roof works, but it does not cover the full cost. Importantly, this funding is released in stages as agreed sections of work are completed, so we have not yet received any of these external funds.
The work has therefore been able to start through donations and private financial support made available to the Village Hall, which has enabled us to get the project underway without further delay.

Fundraising continues, and one of our first events as the new committee was at the Carnival on 8th and 9th August, where we raised over £1200.

Plastering
A huge thank you to Rob Taylor (Chapel Plastering Solutions) who has spent this morning carrying out plastering work for us, completely free of charge, for the benefit of our village hall.
We really do live in a superb community, with so many people willing to give their time and skills to help.

VILLAGE HALL PROGRESS AND FINANCIAL UPDATE
We would like to update you on the Village Hall, explain how your money is being spent and outline the work still taking place.
Since the new roof was completed, progress may appear less visible. However, a considerable amount of work continues behind the scenes. The hall was left in a very poor condition, with serious safety and compliance issues requiring investigation and remedial work. The new roof made the building watertight, but it did not make the hall safe or ready to reopen.
Work completed so far
- The entire roof has been replaced and fully paid for.
- Structural defects discovered beneath the old roof were corrected.
- New structural boarding and strengthening were installed where required. /LI>
- The suspended ceilings have been reinstated. This work was kindly donated and completed at no cost to the Village Hall.
- The water and electricity supplies have been restored.
- Insurance cover has been put back in place.
- The building has been cleared and inspected so that the remaining work can be identified.
Expenditure and estimated costs
New roof and structural work The new roof and associated structural work cost £42,000. The work has been completed and fully paid for.
Electrical work Approximately £900 has been spent or committed on initial investigation and remedial work. This covers only the immediate faults identified and does not mean that the complete installation is compliant. Further testing and remedial work will be required, and the final cost is expected to be considerably higher.
Plumbing and water The labour is being generously donated, although the Village Hall will need to pay for the necessary materials.
Security doors and emergency exits Three quotations have been obtained, ranging from approximately £1,000 to £5,500, depending on the extent and specification of the work required.
Full fire risk assessment A complete fire risk assessment will cost £400.
Insurance and professional fees Final figures are not yet available and will be included in a future update when confirmed.
Kitchen Area
The kitchen has required considerable investigation and work. A number of pots, pans, utensils and other items needed to operate the kitchen were found to be worn out, unsuitable or no longer fit for use and have therefore been disposed of.
These essential items will need to be replaced before the kitchen can operate properly. Further requirements may be identified as the inspection and refurbishment continue, and the associated costs will be confirmed at a later date.
Work currently taking place
- Investigation and testing of the electrical installation.
- Correction of the immediate electrical faults already identified.
- Assessment of the fire alarm, emergency lighting and other safety systems.
- Plumbing repairs and checks.
- Consideration of the quotations for the security doors and emergency exits.
- General safety and compliance assessments.
- Obtaining further quotations for the essential work that remains.
Work required before reopening
Before the Village Hall can safely reopen to the public, we must ensure that:
- The electrical installation has been properly tested and certified.
- The fire alarm and emergency lighting meet the necessary standards.
- Emergency exits and security doors are safe and compliant.
- Essential plumbing and sanitation work has been completed.
- All insurance and safety requirements have been satisfied.
- The building, including the kitchen, has been cleaned, equipped and prepared for public use.

The remaining balance will be needed towards further electrical work, plumbing materials, emergency exits, security doors, kitchen equipment and other essential work. The Village Hall also has ongoing running costs of approximately £1,000 each month. This recurring cost is not included in the £44,300 capital and remedial expenditure total above. These figures will be updated as further costs and invoices are confirmed.
Further grant applications
We are exploring and applying for other grants that may be available to the Village Hall. These include possible further ELDC grants, and we would like to thank the individuals who are currently speaking with us and helping us to explore these opportunities.
We are also in conversation with the Parish Council about the possibility of receiving smaller grants towards individual items or specific pieces of work. No funding has yet been confirmed, but these discussions are continuing.
Keeping residents informed
We remain committed to being open about the Village Hall's finances. As further costs are confirmed, grant decisions are received and additional work is completed, we will continue to keep residents informed.
We know that everyone wants to see the Village Hall reopened as soon as possible. We share that aim, but the building must be safe, properly insured and compliant before it can return to public use.
